Structural problems could shut down a bridge over the Mississippi River in Minneapolis for the second time in four years -- and quite possibly for good.
Just another way to screw up traffic to Northeast Mpls! :)
I very seldom have reason to drive over that bridge anymore, but it always make me a little nervous!
I am glad to hear that they are going to replace it. Hennepin County appears to be doing a better job monitering the bridges under it's watch than the State of Minnesota does. I like the extra steps they are taking.
I glad someone is watching.....On an off topic note, Is that sheriff for Hennepin County still there, the one that was there during the bridge collapse? He seemed like a good guy, I was quite impressed with him. I watched and hung out in the chat room on Fox News for a while right after that happened.
I believe it is the same man, Sheriff Richard Stanek. He has some impressive credentials.
Stanek looks good on paper, but he's been the subject of a lot of controversy throughout his career. He's a "reformed" racist and has had multiple police brutality suits brought against him, of which the city settled out of court.
He was most recently criticized for his self-congratulatory "training" video detailing the response to the 35W bridge collapse. The Minneapolis police and mayor were upset that he took credit for bringing in Navy divers and claim that he actually stood in the way of bringing them in when they were pushing for it. The video cost $30,000 of taxpayers money and was created by the same company that created his election campaign videos.
I voted for the other guy.
kwuark, I forgot about that video.... Thanks for setting the record straight!
Yes that's the guy, I had no knowledge of his history, but at the time, I was impressed.
