For Elizabeth (Rottlady)
I met Elizabeth back in 2007 when she first joined Newsvine. Although we were far apart politically, we were instant friends. The politics didn’t matter. We never discussed it. Her columns brought people from all walks of life together. She was someone who everyone trusted, someone who everyone loved. Elizabeth did not judge. She accepted everyone for who they were. People like her are rare.
I cannot tell you how many times Elizabeth was there for me. The point in my life where we met was possibly the lowest of my life. I was struggling with losing my mother, slowly to poor health and ultimately to death. Elizabeth was there for me through many emails and phone calls. She was my support and my anchor when I felt so lost. She was there when I was laid off from my job at the end of 2008. I am sure we all remember how rocky the economy was at that time. She was there for me when I went back to school and was unsure of myself. Elizabeth had faith that I could do it and I did.
Together with SpikeGary and Hippiechick68, we created the Good News Wednesday Group which has now evolved under her guidance to the Good News World. Our goal at the time was simple. Find stories that are uplifting and positive to balance the negativity that we saw during the 2008 elections. SpikeGary, Hippiechick and I eventually left. Elizabeth continued on. Her column and everything she did on Newsvine represented a positive force on a site that sometimes was overrun with trollish behavior and negativity. Elizabeth was a true positive force on Newsvine. She was never brought down. She was Newsvine at its best.
We will all miss her terribly. But, we all bear a responsibility now to carry on as she did, to bring a positive influence to this site.
I have not been here much in the past few years. And I may not be known to many of you. But I have resolved to try to pick up again what I started with Elizabeth back in 2008. I am still an administrator with the Good News World. My plan is to keep it going. We originally only posted on Wednesdays. In her honor, I am going to try to find all of the positive stories that I can tomorrow and post them to the group. I hope that many of you will join me.
